Volume 113, Summer 2026

Welcome to Volume 113, our Spring/Summer 2026 edition. At our most recent Editorial Group meeting in Birmingham, as part of our celebration of the 40th anniversary of the RaPAL Journal, we made plans for the following three editions to look back at RaPAL’s past achievements, celebrate our present and look forwards to future possibilities.
In the last edition we reproduced a selection of articles going back to 1996, the earliest we have in our printed archive, focussing on how the concept of adult literacy / literacies has developed over time. This edition contains a further selection of past articles, and some new ones, looking at literacy in different contexts and giving an opportunity to see how things have changed, or indeed remained the same, over three decades.
Plans for our next edition:
Volume 114 (Autumn/Winter 2026) : A look to the future, including numeracy, digital literacies and artificial intelligence. How do you see future ways of teaching and learning changing? What are your and your teams' plans?
We are keen to include any articles for this next edition that are suitable for peer-review. Let us know your ideas as soon as possible to give us plenty of time to prepare.
We would also like to include any memories or testimonials that you may have about any of the founder members or anyone who has contributed towards RaPAL in any significant way, including photographs if you have any.

As always, any comments about this or other editions or ideas for future content can be sent to journal@rapal.org.uk. We are also interested in hearing what you think about your Journal. There is a feedback section here so that you can comment on anything you have read in this or previous editions. Follow the link to our comments space at the bottom of the page, which needs the password that has been circulated with this edition. We look forward to hearing from you.

For those who have difficulty accessing the digital version, there is a back-up PDF below, which unfortunately cannot perform all the functions of the digital version but is almost as good! Please note that, for example, any video content will only work when you are online.
